Food and Eating Habits According to the Sunnah

How many times we eat per day? 2 - 3 meals per day & night? Is there any snack time in between? Guess what !!! By applying these wonderful Sunnah regularly while eating on a continuous period we can get revive a Sunnah among ourselves and to people who are with us.

Sunnahs Before & During Eating:

1 ➲ Mentioning Allah’s name.

(Pronounce the Tasmiyah: "[بِسْمِ اللهِ] ~ "in the name of Allah")

2 ➲ Eat with (using) the right hand.

3 ➲ Eating from what is (placed) in front of the eater.

These Sunnahs are gathered in this hadith:
"O boy, mention Allah’s name, use your right hand and eat from what is (placed) in front of you." [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2022]

4 ➲ Rubbing the bite, if it falls, and eating it

The hadith:
"... if a bite falls from anyone of you, he should rub the dirt off it, then eat it…." [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2034]

5 ➲ Using three fingers in eating

The Prophet (PBUH) used to eat using three fingers. [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2032]

This is what he (PBUH) often did and this is better, except when necessary.

6 ➲ The way one sits while eating

Kneeling on his knees and the upper face of his feet, or extending the right leg and sitting on the left one, this is the preferable as stated by Al-Hafedh in “Al-Fat’h”.

Sunnahs after eating:

1 ➲ Licking the dish and the fingers

The Prophet (PBUH) ordered (us) to lick the fingers and the dish and said:
"you do not know in which of them the blessing lies." [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2033]

2 ➲ Praising Allah after eating

(Allah is satisfied with the slave, who eats a meal, then praises Him for it). [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2734]

One of the Prophet’s (PBUH) supplications after eating:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا الطَّعَامَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

(All praise is to Allah, Who Has fed me and provided me with this without any strength or power on my part).

The fruit of this supplication: (all his precedent sins are forgiven)

[At-Tirmidhee, The Book of Supplication, Hadith 3458; Ibn Majah, The Book of Food, Hadith 3285; Shaykh Al-Albanee graded the naration as good]

* The total of Sunnahs, which the Muslim should keep when eating is not less than [15] Sunnahs, supposing that he eats three meals per day and night, and this is what most people have. One may increase these Sunnahs, if there are snacks between these three meals.

Value of Good Deeds

Some of us think that continuously doing good deed or ibarat is good but one also can attain that level by doing one great deed in a lifetime like performing only Eid Salat or going out for Hajj in late 60s. But do you really think that make sense?

A businessman do not stop doing business after by achieving a good profit rather he continuously keeps trying to attain that position or even go higher and higher to boost his income. So this teaches us to stay firm on our career to achieve high results. Similarly one great deeds for a single time do not define who we are rather it is the little good things we do to others day by day that counts. So please do not stop, carry on! People may not notice, but Allah does. It takes 60 minutes to make one hour where each and every minutes has certain value to that together make one hour.

Tips to grow your child to be a better Muslim

First of all Jazak'Allah to you all for your continuous interest in reading The Muslim Magazine blog. Today I'd like to share a short article on how we can help child to be a good Muslim from the very beginning of his/her life. Here are some quick tips for parents on how they can raise their kids to be a better Muslim.

=> When the child is able to speak a little, teach them the name of Allah. Before, mothers would put their children to sleep by chanting Allah Allah, but now unfortunately it is by playing the music on the radio.

=>  Never argue with your spouse in front of children because this leaves puts a lot of stress on the children and causes them to think that they are the cause of the argument.

=> Never curse your children for their mistakes rather motivate them with wisdom and nice words.

=> Pray Salah in front of them, recite Quran, take them to the Masjid with you, and tell them stories of our pious predecessors, they like to listen to stories very much. Hearing stories with lessons and morals will increase their good habits. When they are a little older, teach them the five Kalimat, Imane Mujmal, Imane Mufassal, and then teach them Salah.

=> Put them in under the teaching of an Allah-fearing Shaykh to learn Quran Majeed and knowledge of the deen so they can learn of the beautiful religion to which they belong. Teach them the masail (rulings) of gusul, wudu, and salah.

=> If Allah gives you taufeeq, make atleast on your children Alim or Alimah or Hafiz or Hafiza.

=> Teach your children simplicity and do not expose them to materialism. Teach them the value of doing thier own work. Send them to college, make them judges, make them doctors or any successful and halal career in this world but make them such that they take on these professions as honest Muslims who know their religion.

I hope this article will help you to get more about your duties being a parent. There were some additional info on this article but I had to cut it short to share the gist with you. Finally Jazak'Allah for being with The Muslim Magazine blog :)

When I Die

When I die

when i die
when my coffin
is being taken out
you must never think
i am missing this world

don't shed any tears
don't lament or
feel sorry
i'm not falling
into a monster's abyss

when you see
my corpse is being carried
don't cry for my leaving
i'm not leaving
i'm arriving at eternal love

when you leave me
in the grave
don't say goodbye
remember a grave is
only a curtain
for the paradise behind

you'll only see me
descending into a grave
now watch me rise
how can there be an end
when the sun sets or
the moon goes down

it looks like the end
it seems like a sunset
but in reality it is a dawn
when the grave locks you up
that is when your soul is freed

have you ever seen
a seed fallen to earth
not rise with a new life
why should you doubt the rise
of a seed named human

have you ever seen
a bucket lowered into a well
coming back empty
why lament for a soul
when it can come back
like Joseph from the well

when for the last time
you close your mouth
your words and soul
will belong to the world of
no place no time

Mother's Day 2011

'Mother's Day'

Mothers in Islam are highly honored than father. Islam recommends treating them in the best way. A mother’s right is greater than having just one day in the year to be honored, rather the mother’s right over her children is that they should take care of her & obey her, so long as it does not involve disobedience towards Allah, at all times & in all places. (Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen)

A man came to the Nabi Karim (sm) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet (sm) said, ‘Your mother.’ The man said, `Then who?’ The Prophet (sm) said, ‘Then your mother.’ The man further asked, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet (sm) Said, ‘Then your mother.’ The man asked again. ‘Then who?’ Nabi Karim (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, ‘Then your mother.’ (Muslim#2548, Bukhari#5971)

No matter what mistakes I made in my life, my parents were always there with me through my good times and bad times. Even today, they still help me when I need something or when things become difficult to handle. I thank Allaah for blessing me continuously with most wonderful parents I have. I love you mom and dad. I wish I could go back and change the way I was!

Amazing answer by Scholar

Three Tough Questions!!

There was a young man who went overseas to study for quite a long time. When he returned, he asked his parents to find him a religious scholar or any expert who could answer his 3 Questions. Finally, his parents were able to find a Muslim scholar.

Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?

Scholar: I am one of Allah's slaves and InshaAllah (God willing), I will be able to answer your questions.

Young man: Are you sure? A lot of Professors and experts were not able to answer my questions.

Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of Allah the almighty.

Young Man: I have 3 questions:
1. Does God exist? If so, show me His shape.
2. What is thaqdir (fate)?
3. If shaitan (Devil) was created from the fire, why at the end he will be thrown to hell that is also created from fire. It certainly will not hurt him at all, since Shaitan (Devil) and the hell were created from fire. Did God not think of it this far?

Suddenly, the Scholar slapped the young man's face very hard.
Young Man (feeling pain): Why do you get angry at me?

Scholar: I am not angry. The slap is my answer to your three questions.
Young Man: I really don't understand.

Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: Of course, I felt the pain.

Scholar: So do you believe that pain exists?
Young Man: Yes.

Scholar: Show me the shape of the pain!
Young Man: I cannot.

Scholar: That is my first answer. All of us feel God's existence without being able to see His shape... Last night, did you dream that you will be slapped by me?
Young Man: No.

Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap from me, today?
Young Man: No.

Scholar: That is takdir (fate) my second answer........ My hand that I used to slap you, what is it created from?
Young Man: It is created from flesh.
Scholar: How about your face, what is it created from?
Young Man: Flesh.

Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: In pain.

Scholar: That's it. this is my third answer, even though Shaitan (Devil) and also the hell was created from the fire, if Allah wants inshaAllah (God willing), the hell will become a very painful place for Shaitan

May Allah increase our wisdom and love for our beautiful Deen Islam. Amin

Wise answer by British Sheikh!

A British man came to Sheikh and asked: Why is not permissible in Islam for women to shake hands with a man? The Sheikh said: Can you shake hands with Queen Elizabeth? British man said: Of course not, there are only certain people who can shake hands with Queen Elizabeth. Sheikh replied: Our women are Queens' and Queens' do not shake hands with strange men.

How to avoid anxiety!

As`salamu Alaikum

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) one day and he said: “O boy, I shall teach you some words. Be mindful Allaah and He will take care of you. Be mindful of Allaah and He will protect you. If you ask then ask of Allaah, and if you seek help then seek help from Allaah. Know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you in some way, they would not benefit you except in something that Allaah has decreed for you, and if they were to gather together to harm you in some way, they would not harm you except in something that Allaah has decreed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2516).

Here are some ways to avoid anxiety.

1) The length of your life has already been decided upon, for everything takes place according to preordainment and decree. So there is no need to feel anxious in that regard.

2) The decision of how much sustenance any one of us receives is with Allah alone. No one else owns that sustenance or has power to take it from you.

3) The past is gone and has taken with its woes and miseries. It cannot return even if the whole of mankind worked as one unit to bring it back.

4) The future is from unseen world and has not yet arrived. It brings with it matter, showing no regard to your permission or feelings, so do not call it forth until it actually arrives.

5) Doing good to others bring happiness to both the heart and the soul. A good deed provides greater benefits to the benefactor in terms of blessings and recompense and peace, than it does to the receiver.

6) Among the noble qualities of the believer is that he doesn’t concern himself with spurious criticism. No one has been saved from curses and criticism, not even Allah, the Lord of all that exists, Who is Perfect and Exalted.

(by Dr. Hassan Shamsi Basha)

“No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but is inscribed in the Book of Decrees – [Al-Lauh al-Mahfuz], before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allah.” (Qur’an 57:22)
