Three types of Naf`s are:
1. Nafs al-Ammara
2. Nafs al-Lawamah
3. Nafs al-Mutma-ina
Nafs al-Ammara (Surah 12 : Verse 53) : The Soul which is dead - does not respond. It is the same to it whether you warn it or not.
2. Nafs al-Lawamah (Surah 75 : Verse 2) : The self-critical Soul, constantly winning and at the same time losing ground to evil.
3. Nafs al-Mutma-ina (Surah 89 : Verse 27-30) : The peaceful Soul, the enlightened soul, the soul that truely affirms Allah's unity and utterly negates anything that opposes this - this Soul finds content in Allah.
What Holy Al-Qur'an says about these Naf`s:
Nufs al-amarah
s12:v53 I do not exculpate myself. Lo! the (human) soul enjoineth unto evil, save that whereon my Lord hath mercy. My Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.
Nafs al-Lawamah
s75:v2 Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true).
Nufs al-Mutma-inah
s89:v27 But ah! thou soul at peace!
s89:v28 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!
s89:v29 Enter thou among My bondmen!
s89:v30 Enter thou My Garden!
